construct

— A defined psychological concept that cannot be directly measured.

Full explanation:

Constructs are ideas that cannot be directly observed or measured (e.g., confidence, self-esteem). Understanding what is included (or not included) in a particular construct is important in order to choose an appropriate measure and draw valid conclusions from your research.
